My New Children's Book: Ranya's Magical D.C. Nights

Earlier this year, I set out on a brand-new creative journey: writing a children's book. Living so close to Washington, D.C., I’ve always been fascinated by our monumental architecture and how much it mirrors the classical world. I wanted to take that fascination and turn it into something magical and accessible for young readers.

In my book, I dive deep into these ancient connections. As I’ve shared in a previous post, we look at how the Roman Pantheon inspired the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, but this time, vibrant, imaginative illustrations bring that connection to life in a whole new way. From there, the journey continues as we explore the structural links between the Parthenon in Athens and the Lincoln Memorial, followed by the striking similarities between the Temple of Artemis and the U.S. Treasury Building.

To make this historical adventure truly engaging for children, the story unfolds through a dream, where a young girl is guided through time by a mythical creature, a phoenix!

I am incredibly excited to share this book with young historians worldwide. My hope is to spark a lifelong interest in the Classics by showing readers that the ancient world isn't just confined to history books, it’s standing right in front of us. Whether we realize it or not, classical antiquity continues to shape our values, our governments, and our architecture today.
